Boating Accident

Boating accidents can occur when distractions, speed or other factors such as alcohol or drugs or other negligent factors cause an accident on any body of water.

Florida has it’s fair share of boating accidents and when negligence in a boating accident causes injury or death, you should consult with a personal injury attorney to advise and represent you.

Boat Accidents have resulted in multiple deaths in Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando and Citrus County, Florida. Inexperienced operators clog our waterways and thus, it is crucial for everyone to consider boating safety courses to avoid boating accidents.

In Florida it is required by law that operators of boats or other vessels involved in a boating accident must report the accident by the quickest means possible if the accident has resulted in the following:

A death or disappearance of a person or…

  • An injury causing a person to require medical attention beyond first aid or…
  • Damage to the vessel and other property of $2,000 or more.

The report of the accident must be made to:

  • The Division of Law Enforcement, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (call 1-888-404-3922, or *FWC from a mobile phone) or…
  • The sheriff of the county where the accident occurred or…
  • The police department of the municipality in which the accident occurred.

Failure to report an accident and failure to render aid are both criminal offenses.
